Yukio Nakagawa
1918-2012 Japan (Kagawa Prefecture)
A leading avant-garde ikebana artist, flower arrangement artist, and artist in Japan.
Known as an activist in "avant-garde ikebana," which flourished in post-war Japan and subsided after a few years of prosperity. Around this time, Sofu Teshigahara, Toyokumo Ohara, and Bunpo Nakayama were engaged in similar activities. In 1949, a photograph of his flower arrangement sent to the newly launched specialized magazine "Ikebana Art" was recognized by the landscape architect Mirei Shigemori, and he became known to the world. In addition to solo exhibitions, he held performances with musicians and dancers, and also created glass works and calligraphy.
