Vintage Creamy Carved Galalith Necklace

Here’s a gorgeous rate, vintage (maybe antique) necklace and definitely a ‘Must Have’ to add to any Collection. Necklace is beautifully beaded with graduated, carved cream Galalith beads with 3 small disc Galalith spacer beads. Lower part of necklace has large barrel beads and round beads of carved Galalith. Necklace measures 16” long with a silvertone barrel clasp. In very good vintage vintage. Hot Water tested.

In the early 1900’s, notable French and German jewelry makers such as Coco Channel and Jakob Bengel began using galalith in the production of jewelry, with its widest use in the 1920’s and 30’sGalalith, also know as ‘milkstone’ (Milchstein’) was developed in Germany in 1897 by combining the milk protein casein with formaldehyde, and in the early 20th century it was used in industry and for household items, being relatively simple and inexpensive to produce, easy to color, and heat-resistant.
