The "Honjo Diary" is a diary spanning from 1931 to the author's suicide in 1945. It is a valuable historical document that testifies to the tumultuous Showa era, including the author's time as commander of the Kwantung Army and as a close aide to Emperor Showa as Lord Chamberlain, records of the February 26th Incident from the perspective of the Emperor's inner circle, and a comprehensive collection of materials related to the Manchurian Incident. The "Sugiyama Memo" is a valuable document that details the entire picture of the top leadership from October 1940, when Marshal Sugiyama, who had held key positions in the army since the China Incident, became Chief of the General Staff, until his resignation in February 1944, which he was forced to do by Prime Minister Tojo.
This is also a record of how the Greater Japanese Empire fought and how it was defeated. The book has only been read once after being purchased as a paperback, so the main body is extremely clean, but the obi (sleeve) of the outer box shows some discoloration due to aging. This is a must-read book for those interested in Showa history. Please contact me if you wish to purchase the items individually. However, I will not sell only the first or second volume of the "Sugiyama Memo." Also, it goes without saying that the "bookends" in the photo are not included in the sale.
