This catalog was published in conjunction with the 2017 exhibition "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between" held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
It was the first time a Japanese designer had an exhibition at the museum, and the second time a living designer was featured in a solo exhibition, following Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.
This book introduces 40 years of Comme des Garçons' work since its debut in 1981, with abundant photographs and sketches.
It also includes comments from Rei Kawakubo herself and technicians involved in the production, as well as interviews with the Metropolitan Museum of Art curators and Rei Kawakubo.
