Handmade, wheel thrown terracotta Amphora white washed with natural travertine over warm Cappadocian fire undertones. The ancient Greek city Hierapolis lied on top of an astonishing natural travertine formation, also known as Cotton Castle in modern Turkey, the site is still frequented by many who wish to experience the stunning formations. First bisque fired in a traditional kiln, then white washed with naturally occurring travertine from Hierapolis, followed by a final refiring. With our three-step "Snowtop" process we create pieces with a variety of color gradients, patterns and textures. The Amphora design has been maintained throughout its history tracing back centuries to Roman pottery, affirming its beauty in simplicity. Keeps contents cool through evaporative cooling: Capillary action evaporates slowly through the pores, making the liquid inside cooler than the outside temperature. A great piece for rustic home decor. Can also be used as a wine decanter. Terracotta is a porous material and will naturally perspire, aerating the contents. We recommend that you let your wine sit for at least 30 minutes to ensure complete aeration! As unglazed terracotta is porous, cleaning agents may be absorbed during washing.
