Air rings and air snap gages encircle a part externally, providing diameter measurements. Crafted with a ground, hardened steel body, lapped and polished, these gages have integrated air gage nozzles. Slipping a ring gage over a part senses back pressure, displaying the diameter. Air Rings are available in 2 and 3 jet configurations, with the latter detecting three-lobe out-of-round conditions in centerless ground parts. Optimal wear life for both air rings and probes is achieved using thru-hole or center-jet styles when feasible.
