BEHIND PHOTOGRAPHS (English version): Tim Mantoani

The book "BEHIND PHOTOGRAPHS: ARCHIVING PHOTOGRAPHIC LEGENDS" started with photographer Tim Mantoani personally exploring recording renowned photographers and preserving their photos. In history, both the recording medium of photography and iconic photographers are being lost. While many people are familiar with iconic photos, the general public often doesn't know who took those photos. This photo book became a means to capture both the photographer and their photo in one image.

Regarding the reason for using the almost extinct 20x24 Polaroid, a film for which is scarcely available, Mantoani explains as follows: Firstly, in a few years, the film for this camera may no longer exist. Secondly, for me, this is the ultimate view camera. If you were to call a great existing photographer and ask them to make their photo, but you were shooting with a 35mm digital camera, they might not even answer your call. However, if you were shooting with a 20x24 Polaroid, they would at least listen to your pitch.
