Traveling Man Treasures is selling this rare Chinese Muyu stone lidded brush holder (Bitong). The 1950s brush holder was used to hold writing brushes for calligraphy or painting. The piece features a detailed, low-relief carving of a bird, likely a phoenix, in flight amongst the clouds. The Chinese text along the side reads "Chinese Muyu Stone". The vessel and lid are in excellent condition as shown, making this a fine addition to any Chinese art lover's collection.

Brush holders of this type are traditional Chinese scholar's items with a long history in Chinese art and culture, although finding one made of Muyu Stone is quite rare.

DIMENSIONS: 6.75" Tall x 2.5" Diameter

Chinese Muyu stone, or "Wood Grain Jade," is a rare, 550–580 million-year-old marine mineral deposit, primarily found in Shandong province. Known for its purplish-red color and unique, wood-like veins, it is highly prized for crafting tea sets, jewelry, and health-boosting, ion-releasing items.
