18th century etching by Joseph Goupy (1689-1769), titled "Romanus sum Civis" (from the Latin inscription), depicting the Roman hero Gaius Mucius Scaevola thrusting his hand into the fire before the Etruscan king Lars Porsena, as recounted in Livy's History of Rome (Book 2).

The work is dated 1726 based on similar examples in museum collections like the British Museum and Yale Center for British Art. It was created "in gratiam" (for the favor) of John Taylor of Bifrons in Kent, suggesting a dedicated or patron-specific edition, which could add to its rarity. The technique is etching on laid paper, with dimensions approximately 17.5 x 14 3/8 inches as noted in the accompanying label.

Cool Fact about this one - it had a hand written note.

The handwritten note referencing a 1907 Christie's sale for 375 guineas (~£394 at the time, equivalent to roughly $55,000–$60,000 today adjusted for inflation)

The condition is fair for age. It has tears, foxing,, repair, please review photos: )
